    Details in the LERN Club
This is going to be a good year

A mild upturn in registrations is being reported by a number of programs, leading to some upbeat optimism in the field.

Brochures are looking good. More programs are targeting their customers better. New growth markets are being explored. Online programs continue to grow. More programs are doing more eMarketing. And a focus on the bottom line has led to more financially self-sufficient programs.

LERN has also seen an upturn in business and registrations. The Spring Institutes in San Diego have good attendance. A new Executive Leadership Institute in Tucson will introduce the 30 new CEO skills for success in the second decade. And membership numbers are strong.

It all adds up to a very positive outlook for the rest of 2010.
    What you need to survive:
    Change management skills
With the new decade signaling a new era in continuing education and lifelong learning, it’s time for you to become more proactive in change management.

Static programs will go into decline. Changing programs will reposition themselves for success and stay ahead of the curve. It’s time to manage your boss, not just your staff.

LERN will premiere the 30 new CEO skills needed at our brand new Executive Leadership Institute in Tucson April 26-28. And we’ll have a whole new track of sessions on change management at the big LERN conference in Chicago in November.
    New Growth Markets Cited
From wind energy and healthcare to Christmas camps and grandparent-child classes, the most successful practitioners are upbeat on new growth markets for 2010. Four top programmers, Doug Soo of Vancouver, Marcial Kozel of Sioux Falls, Mike Zuziak of Grand Rapids, and Wendy Evers of San Diego share their top tips this month in the LERN Club. The archive of their webinar last month is available for just $45 by emailing us at info@lern.org.
    Sweet First half
A good first half of the fiscal year is being reported by LERN, leading the senior management team to create more new services and benefits for the rest of the year.

    Big DC meeting looks ahead
LERN was just one of 20 national organizations invited to help plan the future of education in a meeting last month at the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

The group looked at standards for continuing education and lifelong learning, helping low income youth to gain more education and training, and measuring the value of continuing education and training.
