After a ten-year absence LERN was finally able to secure dates in one of its favorite cities, Chicago, the Windy City. LERN returns to the same hotel it used in 2000 and the location of the final scenes from the Harrison Ford movie, The Fugitive. Located across from the world famous Grant Park, the hotel is conveniently located to all major highways and the AMTRAK and
commuter rail stations.

The daytime average temperature is 47 degrees Fahrenheit (8 Celsius) with the overnight temperature averaging 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 Celsius).

To make reservations, call 877-865-5320, or reserve your room online, when reserving online, select the 'Book a Room' button to ensure you get the conference rate.

When calling to make reservations, tell the agent you are attending the Learning Resources Network conference at the Hilton Chicago. The rates are $159 single or double, $179 triple, and $199 quadruple, excluding taxes and fees.

Reservations must be made by Monday, October 18, but is very likely that the room block will sell out well in advance of this date. A portion of the room rate is used to offset conference expenses.

Getting There
Chicago's central location and great transportation options provide you with many convenient options.
 
By Plane
Chicago is serviced by two airports; Midway and O'Hare International. Southwest is the major carrier at Midway and does not service O'Hare. American Airlines is offering a 5 percent discounts off airfares. To make a reservation visit aa.com or call 800-433-1790. There is a $20 fee for reservations made by phone.

One-way taxi service from O'Hare to the hotel ranges from $42 to $45; from Midway $22 to $30. Shuttle service is currently $28 one way to O'Hare and $22 to Midway.
 
By Train

AMTRAK serves Chicago with a station downtown, and LERN has arranged for a discount of 10 percent off most fares. AAA members can also get a similar discount and make reservations via the AMTRAK web site. Currently, AMTRAK may offer even lower fares by booking travel at least 14 days in advance online. To make reservations using the LERN code of X44C-988 you must call 800-872-7245. One-way taxi is approximately $8 from Union Station to the hotel.

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has train service with stops approximately one half mile from the hotel for both the Blue and Orange lines.

 
By Car
If you need a rental car LERN recommends you use the web to compare prices. If you are sure of your travel plans make sure to compare rates against hotwire.com and priceline.com. In addition, HERTZ Rent-A- Car is offering discounted rates via Hertz.com or by calling 800-654-2240 and mentioning code CV #03LL0002. Hertz also has a rental counter inside the Hilton Hotel.

Early registration discount
Register by August 1, 2010, and take advantage of our early registration discount. If your fiscal year ends June 30, you can charge it to either fiscal year.
