Description: Lern Award Submission for 2012 Conference - Exemplary procedure for online course upgrades/checklists
In Fall of 2010 Loyalist College hosted 64 OL courses on Blackboard (BB), taught by 30 instructors. When the upgrade from BB7.3 to BB9.0 occurred on Aug. 25, 2010 we needed to implement a process that confirmed that all Fall 2010 BB courses were carefully reviewed by instructors to ensure that there were no upgrade related issues with their courses in the new BB9.0 environment. This had to be completed prior to the provincial course ready date of Sept. 7, 2010.
This initiative should be recognized because it is a wonderful example of technology serving a large group of users, at minimal cost. The web-based Google Docs survey replaced the need for a person to manually track and compile data from instructors about their upgrade reviews, by collecting data electronically in real time. This allowed the person looking after the upgrade to spend time analyzing the results of the surveys and working with instructors on issues instead of spending time tracking compliance and collecting data from emails with 30 instructors. |
